Collaborative Wall Hanging
Collaborative Wall Hanging
A beautiful wall hanging to warm up a wall in your home. This wall hanging was made by participants in our weaving program with YAI’s Without Walls (WOW), an art program that provides opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in New York City to channel their creativity and become working artists. Multiple artists made this piece together, as their first time trying weaving!
Leroy (pictured holding the Wall Hanging)) is a thoughtful and quiet person. He loves to weave, and is precise and quick. He is also skilled at handsewing, and likes to turn his handwoven fabric into little bags. He loves to experiment, often working with metallic and textured yarns.
Diogeneis (pictured with a thumbs up and pink background) is one of the youngest artists in the class. He is curious about learning new techniques and working with different tools and materials. Recently, he has been working with a circular peg loom to create knitted bands. He likes weaving because it makes him feel calm and peaceful.
Everette (pictured wearing a thin scarf and bolo tie) is an avid weaver and will happily weave for the entire session. He gets his creativity from his grandmother, who is also an artist. He has a great sense of color and style, and loves to make items to wear. He is very joyful, and it shows in his color choices.
Half of the proceeds from this sale will go to the YAI artists.
